Who Sails from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale?
There is a security checkpoint at each entrance where you will need to show your ID and cruise tickets. Check the large digital signs as you enter the port to see which terminal at which your ship is docked. Though it doesn't offer a complimentary shuttle service, it's available for a low cost per person. This is the closest major airport to the Cape Canaveral area, where many cruises leave from Port Canaveral, on Florida’s Space Coast. Once again, the location of Port Everglades offers a big advantage for cruise passengers. Sitting right near the airport and near A1A that runs along the beach, there are a number of hotels that are within just minutes of the port. There is usually an expedited line, and staff with wheelchairs if assistance is needed getting from the terminal to the ship.

It is only 2.7 miles away, and it's incredibly easy to get to the cruise terminals. This is the best airport to fly to and from for easy access to Port Everglades. Hotel shuttles link several accommodation options in the Fort Lauderdale area with Port Everglades. Many hotels near Port Everglades provide free shuttles to and from the airport as well as the cruise port if you are staying overnight at the hotel.

If you plan to stay a night in the area, you can take an Uber or taxi to Fort Lauderdale and select a hotel that offers a shuttle to the port. At the Fort Lauderdale airport the pickup stops for these services are located in between terminals. You can follow the signage to get to the correct spot to then call your ride. After the ride, you’ll rate the driver through the app and also confirm payment through your credit card. Uber/Lyft (Recommended) You can use Uber or Lyft to get to the port from the airport easily (see our guide here). Rates will actually be a little lower than a taxi, and most people prefer to use these rideshare services due to their lower cost and higher convenience.

Although cruises depart Fort Lauderdale throughout the year, summer and fall months are most prone to rain. Besides great weather, spring offers plenty to do in Fort Lauderdale and South Florida.

Before you can get onto the ship, you have to check in and pass through security. The good news is that it’s no big deal and in most cases can be done in 15 minutes or less. Unlike some other ports, Port Everglades has security checkpoints where those 18 years or older need to show identification/passenger ticket to get into the terminal area. Just be ready as you approach the checkpoint at the entrance to the port to make the line go faster. Adjacent to the port area is 17th Street, offering convenient shopping if you are staying close to Port Everglades or if you want to make a last-minute shopping trip. Along with several hotels, 17th Street has several pharmacies, banks, restaurants, cafes and shops between Federal Highway and the Seventeenth Street Causeway Bridge. The Palm Parking Garage hosts 1,966 spaces serving terminals 19, 21, 25, 26 and 29.

There is also plenty of public transportation options once in the city, along with Uber/Lyft. Further, if you are looking to go sightseeing, a hop on hop off bus might be the perfect choice.
Be sure to properly label bags with the luggage tags issued by the cruise line. Instead, contact your cruise line ahead of time to let them know if you'll need wheelchair assistance for embarkation. Local and chain restaurants, grocery stores and convenience stores abound nearby along U.S. 1, as well as along 17th Street leading to the Northport entrance.
